Dorchester County Public Schools
The Mission of the Dorchester County Public School system is to create an environment where every child will learn and succeed by providing equal access to quality educational programs that challenge and engage all students.
Superintendent’s message 3-23-09
Public schools across the country are under increasing pressure through No Child Left Behind to improve student achievement. This is, and always will be, our primary task. The Dorchester County Public Schools instructional staff strives to increase academic rigor, expand learning opportunities, and increase achievement for all students in our schools every day. We want to provide our students with the knowledge and skills necessary to succeed in careers, college, and all aspects of post-high school life.
One strategy to assist in improving preparation of all students is the development of the Governor’s STEM Academies, which will target the untapped potential of Maryland’s students who traditionally have not seen the benefits of studying rigorous Mathematics and Science in order to pursue careers in these fields. Dorchester County Public Schools currently has STEM Academies in each of our high schools.
Measures will be put in place to provide experiences for students in grades kindergarten through eight to ensure that more students will be prepared for accelerated classes and the STEM Academy in high school. Students will be encouraged and guided into appropriate classes in grades 9-12 in order to obtain the background for this rigorous coursework.
High on the list of indicators of a quality school system are safe, orderly school environments; well trained, caring teachers; small class sizes; and enhanced technology instruction for students. In order to reach our goals, students, parents, school staff, and community members must be committed share the responsibility and adequate resources must be provided by state and local fiscal authorities.
By focusing our energies on student achievement, providing highly qualified teachers, providing up-to-date equipment, supplies, and school facilities, we can be assured that our students will be adequately prepared for their place in society after high school.
