Elected Fifth Ward Council member in 2012 for a second term, Commissioner Hanson is the ADA Chairperson, City Properties Liaison, City Police Board Liaison, and the Co-Liaison to Planning and Zoning Appeals Board. He is a board member of the Mid-Shore Regional Council. Previously, Mr. Hanson served as a member of the Cambridge Planning and Zoning Board for one term.
Currently Mr. Hanson serves as Vice-Chair of the Dorchester County Planning and Zoning Commission and has been a member for 25 years. Commissioner Hanson founded and co-chairs the Dorchester County Criminal Justice and Treatment Network and chairs the Dorchester County Drug and Alcohol Council. He was an active participant in the 2020 Waterfront Plan and the City and County Comprehensive Plans.
Commissioner Hanson is a 31 year veteran employee of the State of Maryland, Division of Parole and Probation, Assistant Director of Community Supervision.
He received a BS and a Masters degree from Salisbury University. Mr. Hanson is a graduate of the Department of Public Safety and Correctional Services Leadership Institute 2005.
He is a member of St. Paul’s United Methodist Church and Chairman of the SPPR Committee, American Legion Post #91, VFW Post #7460 and Viet Nam Veterans of America Post #648. He and his wife have three children.
