HPC Agenda

July 21, 2011

The City of Cambridge Historic Preservation Commission will conduct a meeting on Thursday, July 21st at 7:00 p.m. at City Council Chambers, 305 Gay Street. The following items are on the agenda for this meeting at 7:00p.m.  A work session will convene at 6:00p.m. to review topics related to procedures and draft design guidelines.  This meeting is open to the public.

Consent Agenda

HPC#1-12, 420 Races St.- Jeannie Weitzel (filed by Chrystal Signs-Chris Gillis): to install two side black vinyl 24" x 60" banner sign on 2nd floor brick façade for "Jazzercise" occupant.

HPC#3-12, 301 Mill St.- Clay Lewis: appeal of HPC decision (COA#75-10) to require square box over piers on property corners near driveway.

HPC#5-12, 114 Oakley St.- Christopher Markin: install 12' x 20' shed in rear of property; install 15' wood picket fence on right side entrance of house (height 4 ft.).

 

Regular Agenda Items

HPC#2-12, 211 Oakley St.- Shawn and Laura Ridgely (filed by Branden Haddaway): remove rear addition and concrete slab (not original to house), construct new addition over crawl space with roof pitch and overhang to match existing kitchen roof located on rear/side of building; install double hung (1 over 1) windows to match existing windows on house-trim to match; install double door in rear; install hardi-plank (fiber cement) siding to resemble existing siding; install solar panels on rear roof addition (not visible from Oakley Street).

HPC#4-12, 115 Vue de Leau St.- James Bliffen: remove 13 existing windows and aluminum storm windows and install thirteen (13) vinyl clad replacement windows; original frame and exterior shutter brackets to remain.

HPC#6-12, 1103 School St.- Keith and Kathy Wilson: replace front porch wood flooring w, in-kind; replace three (3) porch columns with Turncraft 6" pvc round-tapered w/ base and cap; install; re-side house and garage with 4" vinyl double clapboard siding over asbestos siding; replace deteriorated, corrugated metal garage roof with corrugated asphalt shingle project (Ondura).

HPC#7-12, 707 Locust St.- Frank Method, Bonnie Cain, Rebecca Shannon, (Knox Builders, LLC): remove two entry doors in rear and close in; remove one window in rear  and replace with French door, repair roof.

HPC#8-12, 430 Race St.- filed by Arthur Webb Jr., (Anthony Calabro, owner): add signage to windows, rear upper wall and new awning with logo, install new fence door in rear fence; remove flat roof in rear-replace with pitched roof to match; install new glass exterior door in rear, install walk-in cooler and 7' x 8' storage shed in rear behind fence. (Note: this is the middle space of the commercial building next to Cannery Way for a new business).

 

ADMINISTRATIVELY APPROVED/ROUTINE MAINTENANCE

802 Locust St.-Armand Hayward, (B.A.S. Construction) finish replacing roof shingles on front porch, install clapboard wood siding on rear of building to match.  Approved as Routine Maintenance, 6-26-11.

5 Choptank Ave.-Gordon Hill, remove rotted wood flooring on front porch, replace with in-kind material; add new electric service box and relocated electric service on side of house. Approved as Routine Maintenance, 6-30-11.

803 Locust St.-Kevin Hoffman, repair bricks on porch, replace cedar shake siding where damaged or missing with like kind material; repair gutter, repair wood porch components (flooring, soffit, fascia and head board with in-kind material. (May

305 High St.-Jamie Summers, (for Cambridge Eateries, LLC) to replace logo on existing sign for new "High Spot" restaurant-replaces "Gigi" logo.
