MUC Minutes

January 23. 2014

The Municipal Utilities Commission met in regular session on Thursday, January 23,2014 at the Municipal Utilities Commission conference room at 410 Academy St.,Cambridge, Md. Mayor Victoria Jackson-Stanley convened the meeting at approximately 6:00 pm.

Expenses

Expenses for the Month of December 2013 in the amount of $94,445.87 were submitted for approval.

Motion to approve the expenses was made by Mr. Williams, seconded by Mr. Brooks.

Approved.

Minutes

Minutes for the MUC Meeting of December 23rd2013 was submitted for approval.

Motion to approve minutes was made by Mr. Brooks, seconded by Mr. Williams.

Approved.

Nathan's Ave Well

Mr. Johnson reported on the constant runs of the well including the numbers that show how inconsistent the readings are. Mr. Wright explained the condition of the water at different intervals. Mrs. Dorman reported that she had spoke with MDE and they advised her that the turbidity should be below a 1.5 reading for at least ten minutes.

Mrs. Dorman's recommendation was to install new drainpipe and blending procedure in order to utilize the well. After further discussion a motion to install a new drain pipe for blending and also a motion was made to contact MDE for a realistic maximum requirement for the turbidity levels by Mr. Brooks, seconded by Mr. Williams.

Computer Software Update

Ms. Dorman discussed the new computer software, informing the commission that we have processed payroll and accounts payable thru the new system with no problems. She also stated that we would be ready to process direct deposits on the next pay schedule.

Excavator and Trailer

Mr. Johnson informed the Commission about how pleased they are with the Excavator and Trailer at this time.

Superintendent's Report

Mr. Johnson discussed street openings and br repairs. He reported on the Pumpage and Billing for the Month of December. Mr. Johnson informed the commission there were (59) emergency shutoffs for the Month of December due to freezing temperatures.

Other

Ms. Dorman advised the commission that Cambridge had been selected by the EPA to participate UCMR survey at the expense of MUC. Mrs. Dorman explained the EPA would be responsible for getting the samples and the delivery to the laboratory. Mrs.Dorman also stated that they would monitor our service for two years from 2012 thru 2015.

Mr. Williams suggested contacting the state to see if participating is mandatory. Mrs.Dorman agreed to contact the state and will respond by e-mail to the commission with an answer.

With no further business to discuss, MUC employees were dismissed at approximately 7:00 p.m.
