City of Cambridge Council Member Robert Hanson


Commissioner Robert Hanson is the President of the City Council.  He was elected Fifth Ward Council member for a third term in 2016. After 35 years of service, he retired from the State of Maryland as the Assistant Regional Administrator of Parole & Probation.
He received a BS and a Masters degree from Salisbury University. Mr. Hanson is a graduate of the Department of Public Safety and Correctional Services Leadership Institute 2005.

He is a member of St. Paul's United Methodist Church, American Legion Post #91, VFW Post #7460 and Viet Nam Veterans of America Post #648. He and his wife have three children.

Currently Commissioner Hanson serves as Chairman of the Dorchester County Planning and Zoning Commission and has been a member for over 30 years. He founded and co-chairs the Dorchester County Criminal Justice and Treatment Network and chairs the Dorchester County Drug and Alcohol Council. He was an active participant in the 2020 Waterfront Plan and the City and County Comprehensive Plans.

Commissioner Hanson serves on the following Committees: Sailwinds Advisory Committee, Gateway Committee, Police Board Liaison, Mid-Shore Regional Council, Fire Rescue Company Liaison.
