Stephen Rideout was elected Mayor of Cambridge on September 20, 2022, to serve the remaining two years and three months of the unexpired term of the former mayor that started January 2021. He previously helped to lead the effort to change the Cambridge City government to a city council- city manager form that was established in 2015 and thereafter served one term as Commissioner of Ward 1.
He also consults on child welfare issues with the Virginia Court Improvement Project. While on the bench as a Juvenile and Domestic Relations District Court Judge in Virginia, he led projects and supported others that helped reduce his court’s caseload and improve services and programs for the children and families in Alexandria. He continues to volunteer in the community as a board member of Moving Dorchester Forward, where his focus is on parent and community engagement and court involved children. He is also a member of the board of directors of the Mid Shore Community Foundation and the Mid Shore Community Mediation Center. He is married to Bobbie Rideout and has two children, Amanda and Jeff, and three grandchildren.
