University of Maryland-Shore Medical Center at Cambridge
University of Maryland-Shore Medical Center, formerly Dorchester General Hospital, takes pride in having served generations of Dorchester County families for over 100 years. The hospital, which sits on the shores of the Choptank River in Cambridge, was built in 1904. In 1996, Dorchester General Hospital and The Memorial Hospital at Easton formed Shore Health System. Ten years later, Shore Health System affiliated with the University of Maryland Medical System.
Services
Dorchester General Hospital is a 47-bed adult medical / surgical community hospital, providing 24-hour emergency services. The hospital also has a 24-bed adult behavioral health inpatient unit, which provides acute psychiatric care for patients from the Mid-Shore region and the lower counties of Maryland's Eastern Shore. It provides a full-array of diagnostic and therapeutic services, including digital mammography, surgery, endoscopy and lab testing. The hospital is home to the region's only Balance Center and offers a variety of sophisticated outpatient services including chemotherapy, cardio-pulmonary rehabilitation and sleep disorders studies.
